where St. Gemma received the Stigmata

This is Gemma’s room at the Galgani Home in Lucca where St. Gemma first received the sacred marks of the Stigmata. Here are Gemma’s own words regarding this miraculous occurrence: “In the morning I could scarcely go to Communion. I put on a pair of gloves, the better to hide my hands. I could not stand upon my feet. Every minute I thought that I would die. These pains lasted until three on Friday, the Solemn Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.” Because Gemma was so internally recollected, she also was able to say, “These sorrows, these pains, even as they afflicted me, brought me perfect peace.” |
